The ISPC: Five Years of International Science at the Intersection of Research and Practice

The ISPC – International Scientific-Practical Conference – has grown into an established fixture on the international academic calendar for digitalisation, e-commerce and management. What began as a specialised forum has evolved into an annual platform that brings together academics and practitioners from Germany, the USA, Switzerland, Georgia and beyond.

Following editions in Cologne (4th ISPC 2024) and New York (5th ISPC 2025), the 6th edition takes place for the first time in Switzerland – at FHNW (University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland) in Brugg, one of Switzerland’s most respected universities with over 15,000 enrolled students. The event will be hosted by Prof. Dr. Darius Zumstein from the Institute for Competitiveness and Communication at FHNW, who has contributed as both speaker and co-organiser at the two most recent editions.

The proceedings of the 5th ISPC 2025 have already been published by Springer Nature – further evidence of the academic quality of the series and the reach that contributions gain through publication.

Expert Quote

The ISPC is for us every year a unique opportunity to discuss current research findings directly with practitioners. The combination of academic depth and practical relevance is what makes this conference so valuable – I am very much looking forward to the 6th edition in Switzerland.

— Prof. Dr. Richard C. Geibel, Director, E-Commerce Institute Cologne & IU International University

A Note on Accommodation: Book Early

Brugg is a small town with only two recommended conference hotels. As a large number of participants is expected, the organisers strongly advise booking accommodation early:

  • Hotel Terminus Brugg – 500 m from the conference venue | terminus-brugg.ch

Academic Context

Research by Julian Thiers and the team led by Prof. Dr. Richard C. Geibel at the E-Commerce Institute Cologneunderscores the critical bridging function of international scientific conferences such as the ISPC: they translate academic findings into practically applicable knowledge while building networks that continue to operate long after the event.

In an era defined by AI and digital transformation, the exchange between science and practice has never been more important. The ISPC provides exactly this space – international, open-access, and with a direct pathway to publication through Springer Nature. The E-Commerce Institute Cologne has supported the conference since its founding and looks forward to welcoming participants in Switzerland.
