MIT Annual General Meeting and Annual Symposium on Artificial Intelligence

Berlin, June 14-16th 2019

This was a weekend full of exciting and interesting activities, beginning with an event hosted by Amazon on Insights into Amazon’s speech recognition programme (“Meet Alexa”). This was followed by dinner at the Augustiner Brewery on Gendermenmarkt.

At the Fresenius Hochschule on Saturday the Annual General Meeting was held in the morning, followed by a catered lunch. Then came the symposium on Saturday afternoon, where we explored the deep impact of A.I. in transforming our built and living environment. A group of A.I. experts discussed special topics around the process from connecting data to creating intelligence, the ethical dimension of A.I. and the opportunities and risks involved in A.I. development. Speakers and panel guests were Prof. Dr. Dietmar Harhoff, Chair of the Commission of Experts for Research and Innovation, and Director of the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition, as well as MIT Sloan and Harvard Alumnus • Prof. Dr. Stephan G. Humer, Leiter des Forschungs- und Arbeitsbereichs Internetsoziologie an der Hochschule Fresenius • Dr. Talha Ulusoy, University Lecturer at IUBH University of Applied Sciences • Mrs. Meike Müller, Entrepreneur, Digital Transformation Strategist, Tech & DLT Enthusiast • Prof. Dr. Richard Geibel, Studiendekan für Master-Studiengänge, Fresenius University of Applied Sciences. Also, we shed light on MIT’s newest investment in this area with the founding of the new MIT Schwarzman College of Computing. Finally, in a panel discussion, we elaborated on different positions and invited all members to join the debate.

We ended the day at the top of the TV tower for a lovely dinner and magnificent rotating view over Berlin. On Sunday morning we reserved a tour of the Boros contemporary art collection, which is displayed in a World War II bunker in the middle of Berlin. We ended the weekend with lunch nearby at the Ständige Vertretung Restaurant on the Spree. It was a special weekend in the exciting capital of Berlin.
