High honour for the MIT Club of Germany with Prof. Dr. Richard Geibel

Project “School MIT Science” in Cambridge awarded

The MIT Club of Germany e.V. has won the “Great Dome Award” of the Alumni Leadership Conference (ALC) of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The prize was awarded for the concept “School MIT Science”. This highest award of the ALC honors groups that have rendered outstanding services to MIT and its values. The “School MIT Science” concept meets these criteria because it makes MIT better known in Germany and trains secondary school teachers for better mathematics and science teaching. Professor Dr. Richard C. Geibel, Vice President of the MIT Club of Germany and Dean of Studies for the Master’s programs in Digital Management (German) and Digital Management (English) at the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences in Cologne, was among those who accepted the award. He studied computer science at the RWTH Aachen University and subsequently completed his doctorate at the University of Cologne. During his doctorate, Geibel did research as a “Visiting Research Scientist” at the “Alfred P. Sloan School of Management” at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge.

The MIT Club of Germany e.V. initiated the “Schule MIT Wissenschaft” project three years ago. The aim was to combine the high standard of knowledge and the spirit of MIT with everyday problems. “Inspire Enthusiasm” is the motto of the annually renewed, top-class advanced training for science and technology teachers from all over Germany. Qualified speakers provide the latest insights into their research areas. The focus is on interdisciplinary approaches. Keynote speakers are Nobel Prize winners and scientists from MIT. In workshops, participants will learn how current scientific topics can be implemented in everyday school life. This will enable an exchange of experience between scientists and teachers beyond the borders of the federal states. The aim is to create a nationwide network. “School With science is spreading enthusiasm for MIT by demonstrating the high educational standards it upholds and its spirits of working across disciplines to solve relevant problems”, says the award’s rationale.
