A New Standard Work on the Digital Transformation of Healthcare
We are delighted to announce that the new specialist book “Digital Health in Germany – Where Do We Stand and Where Do We Need to Go?” has been published by the renowned Springer Verlag. It was edited by Prof. Dr. Richard C. Geibel, Director of the E-Commerce Institute Cologne, together with Dr. Ulrich Arnold, Managing Director of gkv informatik, and Günter Wältermann, Chairman of the Board of AOK Rheinland/Hamburg.
The book brings together scientific expertise, practice-oriented case studies and policy perspectives. It thus provides a unique overview of the current state of digital transformation in the German healthcare system.
Why “Digital Health in Germany” is a Milestone
The digitisation of the health sector is in full swing — and yet Germany often remains behind other countries in international comparison. Digital Health in Germany gets to the heart of this question: How can we catch up and consistently harness the opportunities of digitalisation?
The work offers a comprehensive overview of current developments, stakeholders and challenges. Topics such as the electronic patient record (ePA), the Health Data Utilisation Act (GDNG), the Digital Law (DigiG), artificial intelligence (AI) and the DigitalRadar are deeply analysed and considered in their interrelationships.
The aim of the book is to promote a sustainable, patient-orientated and digital health care provision — through scientifically grounded recommendations for action and best-practice examples that show how innovation can succeed in practice.

A Collaborative Work of Research, Practice and Policy
The book is the result of an interdisciplinary collaboration between experts from research, business, practice and policy. Each author contributes an individual chapter to depict a differentiated picture of the current digital healthcare landscape in Germany.
The editors emphasise in their foreword that this work was only possible through the engagement and expertise of many contributors. Their goal: to advance the scientific and societal discourse on digital health issues such as data sovereignty, telemedicine and AI-supported diagnostics.
A Call to the Digital Future of the Health System
With the publication of Digital Health in Germany, the opportunity arises to reshape the dialogue about the future of the German health system. The book is aimed at decision-makers in politics, science and health organisations who are committed to a modern, networked and equitable health care.
The editors invite all interested parties to continue the discourse — in research, teaching and practice. In this way the digital transformation should be shaped not only technologically but also socially.

The book is now available as a Kindle edition on Amazon for €55.99. A free sample with a large part of the table of contents is already available. The print edition is also published by Springer Verlag and comprises 335 pages full of analyses, insights and practice-relevant recommendations.
