Fressnapf launches new warehouse

The Fressnapf Group has commissioned Vanderlande to automate its new logistics center in Nörvenich. The centerpiece is an AutoStore system, which is being implemented in collaboration with Vanderlande’s sister company, Toyota Material Handling Deutschland.

The pet supply provider, Fressnapf, has chosen Vanderlande as the general contractor for automating its new E-commerce hub in Nörvenich. According to a report from LOGISTIK HEUTE on February 16th, up to 800 new logistics jobs are expected to be created gradually at this location starting from summer 2025. The purpose of the facility is to process E-commerce orders from the segment of pet food and accessories. Vanderlande announced this in a press release on February 20th. This segment includes a wide range of small and large items, all of which are targeted for automation. Goods are received in a narrow aisle pallet rack and then transported to the areas for handling large and small items.

In collaboration with the Logistics Solutions Integration department of its sister company, Toyota Material Handling Deutschland, Vanderlande has developed a future-proof automated system. The AutoStore system forms the core of automated small-item picking. It has been enhanced with a Vanderlande system solution for combined handling of large and small items.

The combination with Vanderlande conveyor technology and the integration of a dynamic “QUICKSTORE HDS” shuttle system enable an automated consolidation process of large and small items. Vanderlande states that these have previously been implemented exclusively manually in similar facilities.

The system solution strictly separates processes.

There are different packing areas for various product groups, along with automatic sealing lines equipped with volume reduction and labeling capabilities. The conveyor technology automatically routes all cartons to their respective areas, with Vanderlande’s “DOT.M” conveyor technology being a core component. Both for parcel distribution to sealing lines and in the outbound area, “POSISORTER” units are deployed as high-performance devices.

Furthermore, Vanderlande provides a Warehouse Management System (WMS) based on SAP EWM. The implementation of SAP EWM thus completes the uniformly integrated SAP architecture from master data management to material flow control.
